After continuous protest at the Faculty of Law, the Delhi HC has now directed Delhi University to deposit the inspection fee within two weeks to the Bar Council Of India (BCI).
After the inspection fee is deposited, the Bar Council will carry out inspection & take the necessary steps required to get approval for the Faculty of Law at the University of Delhi.
This order came after the petition put forth by Vedansh Pandey, Harsh Vardhan, & Shrikant Prasad, which demanded inspection regarding the acts by Delhi University, from Bar Council of India (BCI). It has been claimed that the University of Delhi has been violating the rules of legal education formed by the Bar Council.
It was also brought forward that Delhi University’s Faculty of Law hasn’t framed any rules or regulations that have to be followed while preparing question papers & evaluating the answer sheets of the students.
According to the petition, the absence of any rules or regulations has led to wrong activities where teachers & students have involved in the sharing of question papers. This has also given an unguided power to the Faculty of Law in evaluating the answer scripts of the students. There has been a leak of question papers due to nepotism in the examination.
This is a complete violation of Rule 8(c) of Bar Council of India (BCI)’s Rules of Legal Education which makes it compulsory for universities to have a proper evaluation system for certifying students. There has also been a violation of the Right to Information act as no grievance/complaints by the students to the University have been addressed & no data has been shared with them, as demanded.
