Tamil Nadu Govt sanctions monthly stipend of ₹ 3,000 for young Lawyers for two years

On Friday, the Tamil Nadu Govt has decided to proceed with a proposal to pay a monthly stipend of ₹ 3,000 for young Lawyers in the State for a two-year period.

A press release issued by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in this regard, it read:

“On considering the unresolved issue for long time, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has sanctioned a monthly stipend of Rs.3,000/- for a period of two years to the young Advocates who are practicing in Tamilnadu. The timely help to the young Advocates will go to long way in ensuring that the standards of Advocates stays high and as a directive result, Tamilnadu will be able to produce great Advocates and eminent jurists in future. Minimum 2,000 young advocates will be benefited every year in this Scheme.”

In view of this the State Bar Council Chairman PS Amalraj has also expressed his happiness and thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Law Minister for the initiative on behalf of the entire legal fraternity.

Earlier on June 16, the Court had urged for an amendment to be brought to the State Bar Council Rules so that interim welfare fund payouts can be made to aid the Advocates and Clerks.

Inter alia, a plea seeking monetary aid to help lawyers and advocates’ clerks in need facing distress due to COVID-19 crisis is scheduled to come up before the Madras High Court next on July 22.
