Tamil Nadu Bar Council suspends three Advocates for being charged under NDPS Act,IPC and Goondas Act [Read Notice]

The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has intimated that it has passed orders prohibiting the practice of law by three advocates on account of criminal complaints having been filed against them.

A notice issued by the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Tuesday said that a resolution has been passed on July 12 in relation to the same.

As per the notice, advocates P Sathish and P Regivines have been prohibited from practicing on account of a complaint registered against them under Sections 8 (c) and 20 (b) (II) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, at the Sankar Nagar Police Station, Chennai.

A third lawyer, S Jothiraja has been prohibited from practice on account of a complaint against him citing various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including the offence of attempt to murder under Section 307.

The complaint registered at the Thalamuthunagar Police Station cited Sections 147, 148, 341, 294 (b), 506 (ii), 120B and 307 of the IPC as per the notice. Further, it was also noted that the District Collector, Thoothukudi had, on July 1, ordered his detention as a “Goonda” under the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act.

All three lawyers have been prohibited from practicing as advocates in all courts, tribunals and other authorities in India either in their name or in any assumed name till the disposal of disciplinary proceedings pending against them.
