The President on Monday appointed advocate P V Kunhikrishnan as a judge of the Kerala HC. Swearing-in ceremony is expected to be on Thursday.

A notification regarding the appointment as an additional judge for two years was issued by ministry of law & justice on Monday afternoon. Judges are appointed as additional judges initially & are then appointed as permanent judges later on.

The Supreme Court collegium’s recommendation for appointing HC lawyer Kunhikrishnan as a judge was originally issued in Oct 2018. In February last year, the collegium led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi had reiterated its recommendation for appointing Kunhikrishnan as a judge of the Kerala High Court after the central govt objected to its initial proposal.

After completing schooling at Payyannur, Kunhikrishnan graduated in law from Kerala Law Academy at Thiruvananthapuram. He had enrolled as an advocate on Dec 17, 1989. Practising at Kozhikode district & sessions court & other subordinate courts from Jan 1990, he shifted practice to the HC in Oct 1993.
