The President of India has nominated Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi to Rajya Sabha as a nominated member.

The notification is published in the Official Gazette today. It reads as follows:

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (1) of article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article, the President is pleased to nominate Shri Ranjan Gogoi to the Council of States to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated member.”

Other nominated members in the Rajya Sabha are Swapan Dasgupta, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Dr. Narendra Jadhav , Suresh Gopi, Mrs. Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, Roopa Ganguly, Ram Shakal , Rakesh Sinha, Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Raghunath Mohapatra.

Justice Gogoi has been nominated to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated member, Senior Advocate K.T.S. Tulsi.
