BCI Chairman writes to LG, Police for investigation into rape, attempt to murder of Lady Advocate in Jangpura Extension

The Chairman of Bar Council of India (BCI) has written to the Lieutenant Governor and Commissioner of Police of Delhi, urging them to depute their finest team and officers to investigate into the heinous incident of rape and attempt to murder of a lady advocate in Jangpura Extension, Delhi.

On May 19, a masked man reportedly raped a lady advocate after entering her house forcefully. The lady advocate was attempted to be strangulated and murdered on her refusal to divulge her ATM card number and was beaten brutally again.

What is unfathomable and difficult to comprehend is that when during Lockdown, there is police manning the entire city of Delhi, why was there such a laxity in the vicinity where the crime occurred..

In spite of so much of police presence, it is apparent that there was no fear of the police in the minds of the criminal.”, the Bar Council of India has remarked.

The Bar Council of India has suggested deployment of anti-rape, anti-molestation team around the clock in all vicinities throughout the country.

We as a fraternity and as citizens also are willing to come forward, and we have to indeed step forward to assist your machinery, but the lead is expected to be taken by you.”, the letter reads.

At present, the police has registered a case and has started investigation.

Bar Council Requested, “My urgent and fervent request to you would be depute your finest team and officer available to investigate this case so that the perpetrator of this heinous crime can be traced out and arrested and given a punishment adequate in law for committing such heinous crimes.

The Bar Council of India has urged that the matter be investigated thoroughly and urgently and the guilty be arrested.

Request is also made to provide full protection to the victim.
