The Special NIA Court has extended custody of suspended Mumbai Police Officer Sachin Waze till April 9 and has also allowed the CBI to interrogate him in NIA custody. The CBI has been told to coordinate the timings of the interrogation.
During the hearing, Waze’s lawyer has told the court that he is not opposing NIA’s demand for remand and added that the suspended API is ready to cooperate with CBI in their probe. He also objected to Waze being taken to CSMT station with handcuffs on.
Earlier today, Param Bir Singh left the National Investigation Agency (NIA) office where he went to record his statement on Wednesday. According to sources, the NIA interrogated him on the Antilia bomb scare case and suspended police officer Sachin Waze’s involvement.
Singh arrived at the NIA office in south Mumbai in a car around 9.30 am and directly went inside the anti-terror probe agency office. He left from there around 1:30 pm.
Currently, the director-general of the Home Guards, Singh was removed from the Mumbai police chief’s post last month.
Shiv Sena leader and former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma has also arrived at the NIA office.
The NIA has already arrested several people, including Waze, in connection with the explosive-laden Scorpio car found outside Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s residence Antilia on February 25 and the subsequent mysterious death of Thane businessman Manuskh Hiran on March 5.
Several high-end vehicles used by Waze have already seized by the NIA. It has also recovered several items from a river.
The agency has also arrested suspended police constable Vinayak Shinde and cricket bookie Naresh Gor in connection with the murder of Mansukh Hiran, whose body was found in the Mumbra creek in neighbouring Thane.
Mumbai Police Commissioner submits report over Waze’s reinstatement
Also today, Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale submitted a report to Maharashtra Home Department about the reinstatement of Waze and his nine months tenure in Mumbai CIU, Crime Branch.
The report submitted by Mumbai Police states, “Sachin Waze was posted in Crime Intelligence Unit after oral instructions from the then Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. Waze was reporting to Singh directly, bypassing several other officers”.
CBI to record the statement of Jaishri Patil today
Meanwhile, the statement of advocate Jaishri Patil, who filed a PIL at the SC over Singh’s allegations against the former state home minister Anil Deshmukh, will be recorded by the CBI today.
Patil has arrived at the DRDO office to give her statement to CBI.
Patil filed a caveat before the SC as Deshmukh and Maharashtra government are expected to approach the SC against Bombay HC order to CBI to start preliminary inquiry within 15 days into allegations.
