In light of the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government on Monday imposed a curfew in the national capital from 10:00 pm on April 19 to 5:00 am on April 26.
Judges and court staff of the Supreme Court of India, the Delhi High Court and subordinate courts and tribunals in the capital are among those who are exempted from the curfew.
Among the others to be exempted from the curfew are:
- Central and Delhi government officers involved in essential and emergency services;
- Private medical personnel;
- Pregnant women and patients;
- Persons who are going for COVID-19 testing or vaccination;
- Persons going to and from railway stations/airports;
- Electronic and print media;
- Students allowed to appear for examinations.
Grocery stores, banks, telecom and IT services, petrol pumps, delivery of essential goods and food from restaurants etc are allowed to operate. Public transport is allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity, whereas autos and taxis are allowed to ply with only the exempted classes of persons.
A 50-person cap is introduced for weddings, while only 20 persons are allowed to attend funerals.
Private offices, malls, educational institutes, theatres, restaurants, bars, gyms, barber shops, swimming pools etc shall remain closed during the curfew. All political, sports, entertainment and religious gatherings are also barred.
