The four convicts in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case were hanged at 5:30 am on Friday, more than seven years after committing the heinous crime in which a 23-year-old physiotherapy student was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012, and thrown on the road to die.
The physiotherapy intern was gang-raped & savagely assaulted on the night of December 16, 2012, in a moving bus in South Delhi. She died of her injuries a fortnight later in a Singapore hospital.
Six people – the 4 convicts, Ram Singh & a juvenile – were named as accused.
The trial of the 5 adult men began in a special fast-track court in March 2013. Ram Singh, the prime accused, committed suicide in Tihar Jail by hanging himself days after the trial began. The juvenile was put in a correctional home for three years.
Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar (31) were sentenced to death in September 2013 by the trial court.
The Four Covicts have exhausted all their legal remedies.
