A complaint has been filed against Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and the makers of his popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 12’ for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Maharashtra BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar filed a complaint with Latur Police over a question asked during Karamveer special episode on October 30.
Pawar tweeted his two-page complaint against Bachchan and makers of KBC, saying “There was an attempt to hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and create discord between Hindus.”
He sought action against the Bollywood megastar and the channel airing the popular quiz show. Here’s the question which has led to the furore: On 25th December 1927, Dr B R Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture?
The options were: (A) Vishnu Purana (B) Bhagavad Gita, (C) Rigved and (D) Manusmriti.
After asking the question, Bachchan had then said, “In 1927, Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti to ideologically justify caste discrimination and untouchability and burned its copies.”
Social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anup Soni were in the hot seat and were responding to the following question, which was worth Rs 6.40 lakh.
Pawar, considered to be close to former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, said that the motive behind the question was to hurt the sentiments of Hindus as all the four options pertained to Hindu religion.
“This question spreads the message that Hindu religious scriptures are meant for burning and triggers enmity between Hindus and followers of Buddhism,” Pawar claimed.
Notably, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri had also hit out at the makers of the KBC claiming the quiz show was “hijacked by Commies”.
Big B received huge flak on social media over the particular question. Several netizens took to Twitter to attack Bachchan.
While one user asked the actor whether he would dare to ask any questions like this on Quran, another said the country’s biggest filmstar does not leave any chance to humiliate this Hindu religion.
A Twitterati accused the makers of the quiz show of deliberately trying to raise an issue so that the TRP rating goes up.
