The Mumbai Police has registered a first information report (FIR) against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh for obscenity after images of his recent nude photoshoot with an e-magazine were posted by the actor on his social media accounts.
Singh has been booked for offences under Sections 292 (sale of obscene books, etc.), 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
The FIR was registered by the Chembur Police Station based on a complaint filed by a 50-year-old Mumbai citizen, Lalit Tekchandani.
The complainant alleged that he came across Singh’s image of the photoshoot on his Instagram account.
In the statement recorded in the FIR, Tekchandani alleged that these images had gone viral on the internet in a “cultured country like India”.
“Actors in India are called Nayak and the people of India follow them. In some part of India, the people even worship them as God. By doing such acts , actors like Ranveer Singh try to get cheap publicity at the cost of sentiments of the people. These kinds of acts should be opposed strongly, as it is not being opposed then struggling actors will also follow the same path for getting cheap publicity which will result in a worst society,” the statement said.
