The web series ‘Aashram’ starring Bobby Deol in the lead role has got embroiled in a legal tangle. A Jodhpur Court issued notices to Deol & the director of the series Prakash Jha on Monday.
The case came up for hearing in the District & Sessions Court in Jodhpur & the Court issued notices to Jha & Deol & sought their replies. The Court fixed the next date of hearing for Jan 11, 2020.
The web series that has received good reviews has Deol in the role of a self-styled godman. The series depicts the crimes & corruption that take place under the guise of faith.
Lawyer Khush Khandelwal who filed a plea in Court, said the series shows Hindu gurus as rapists, corrupt & involved in drugs business. He said the series shows Hindu religion in poor light & has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Khandelwal said he had earlier lodged a complaint in Kudi Police Station but sine no action was taken, he approached the court & filed a petition.
In his petition, Khandelwal has mentioned some scenes that are objectionable. He said the series shows upper castes exploiting Dalits which will lead to hostility between the two communities. In one scene, the godman is shown drinking liquor which is an insult to spiritual leaders.
The 2nd season of ‘Aashram’ began on Nov 11. The series has courted controversy earlier too when the Karni Sena had objected to the content, saying it had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
