The Calcutta High Court last week ordered the Director General of Police (DGP), West Bengal to constitute a team of senior officers to probe a case of a bogus writ petition filed before the court by forging the signatures of a woman [Sumona De vs State of West Bengal].
Single-judge Justice Mohammed Nizamuddin was hearing a plea filed by one Sumona De, who alleged that her signatures were forged by some unknown person to file a writ petition before the High Court.
The woman, through her advocate, claimed that she learnt of this “serious offence” committed by someone by impersonating her and forging her signatures. She stated that an advocate by name Aviji Pal allegedly filed the petition and when she tried to contact him, some factory worker answered the call.
Taking note of this fact, the bench said the offence is serious not only against Sumona but even against the High Court.
“It is a very serious offence committed not only against the applicant (Sumona) but also against this Court and it thus requires thorough investigation and offender deserves an exemplary punishment,” the judge said in the order passed on August 26.
The bench, therefore, directed the DGP and State CID to constitute a team of senior Police Officers including IPS Officer to investigate this case under his
Advocates Sukanta Chakraborty, Navanil De, Debnath Ganguly, Aranya Saha, Rajeshwar Chakraborty, Subhrajit De for the Applicant.
Government Pleader A Ray along with advocates TM Siddiqui, D Ghosh and V Kothari represented the State.
